What is an Android TV box?
Hello everyone and welcome to our blog.
Today we are going to discuss about Android TV boxes.
What are Android TV Boxes? What can they do?
All the answers are here!!
An Android TV box is simply a TV box running the Android operating system.
This is the same operating system as the one running on the smartphone, tablet and millions of other devices.
Usually it is a slightly older version like KitKat or Lollipop. But, if you know how to use your tablet or smartphone, you can usually run most of those apps on an Android TV box.
Why so many different names?
- In North America, these devices are normally called Streaming devices or Streaming Media players.
- In Europe, they are called Kodi boxes due to the popularity of installing Kodi and some of the streaming add-ons that are available.
- They can also be called IPTV boxes because it is much easier to find an Internet Protocol TV service on that side of the Atlantic than in the US.
- In Asia, they called them TV boxes.
You can also see the term mini–PC.
TV boxes can also be considered as a mini-PC. A mini-PC can also include any small-format computer like an Intel NUC. They can usually do everything that you’re desktop PC or laptop can do.
Some TV boxes can replace your desktop, but they are the exception, rather than the rule.
What makes it an Android TV box?
Different companies can create different launchers to give it a customized look and feel. They are trying to make it easier to use and look more like Netflix.
Android is an incredibly customizable operating system, so if you don’t like the launcher that came with your device you can simply add a new one and start using it.
But, there is one important thing to remember: there is a big difference between Android TV and an Android TV box.
Here is where it could get a little confusing.
Android TV vs TV box
Android TV is a system that organizes your content into one platform for easy organization and searching.
Android TV is Google’s attempt to run your media hub.
The difference between Android TV and an Android TV box, lies in the operating system itself.
Android TV is a special version of the core Android OS. Android TV cannot run every app. But, the apps that it can run are specifically designed to be run on your television rather than a touchscreen.
Who should buy an Android TV box instead of a Roku, Apple TV or Fire TV?
If you are the type of person that loves having the option to install whatever you want and tweak your system to really make it yours, then you are just the person who should get an Android TV box.
